Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for general ledger management, account reconciliation, depreciation and accruals, management of restricted and unrestricted assets, preparation of draft financial statements, and preliminary monthly accounting cycle closing.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the improvement and maintenance of financial record keeping and reporting systems
  • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets and actual expenditures
  • Produce monthly financial statements including balance sheet, profit/loss statements, cash position, and budget performance using a computer based accounting system
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP, Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting, and other requirements as needed
  • Ensure that all general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records on a monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly closing general ledger entries
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis
  • Monitor and report on cash flow on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis to varying degrees of complexity
  • Review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports
  • Develop and review, on a weekly basis, key performance indicators related to the financial health of the agency with the Chief Financial Officer and other Senior Leadership team members as required
  • Maintain clear communication with staff, referents or designated liaison persons
  • Personally maintain a high standard of professional and ethical standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

Responsibility and Decision Making Authority:

Accountable for the timely and accurate management of the financial reporting tools for the agency.
This position will be expected to provide innovative ideas, challenge the status quo, and actively engage in continuous quality and process improvement.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration or related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience in accounting role, 1-2 years in controller or senior position
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail required
  • Proficient knowledge in financial software applications and ability to use multiple data systems as required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and maintain composure in difficult situations in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional approach and communicates effectively with all staff and clients
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Public accounting experience with non-profit agencies preferred
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk and listen both in person and while using the phone for extended periods
  • On a regular basis must be able to reach and with hands and arms
